A Sunday, Feb.1 Devotional Blog on Romans 8:28
There are some Scriptures that feel like they steady the soul the moment you read them. Romans 8:28 is one of those verses — a quiet, unwavering reminder that God is doing far more in our lives than we can see.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
It’s a verse many of us can quote, but living it out — especially in seasons of confusion, disappointment, or delay — is where faith becomes real.
A Confidence That Doesn’t Shake
Paul doesn’t say we hope things will work out. He doesn’t say we wish or we assume. He says we know. That kind of confidence doesn’t come from a life of ease. It comes from walking through storms and discovering that God was already in them, shaping something redemptive.
On a Sunday morning — the first day of a new month — this truth lands differently. It invites you to breathe deeply, unclench your shoulders, and remember that God is not improvising with your life. He is orchestrating.
Even the parts you’d rather skip. Even the chapters you don’t understand yet.
Your Love, His Purpose
This promise isn’t random or automatic. It’s relational.
It belongs to those who love God — not perfectly, but sincerely — and who are walking in the calling He has placed on their lives. You don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t have to see the whole path. You simply need to keep loving Him and keep saying yes to His purpose.
When you don’t understand the “why,” you can still trust the “Who.”
When the Good Isn’t Obvious
Let’s be honest: sometimes the “good” God is working toward doesn’t look like comfort. It looks like growth. It looks like transformation. It looks like strength you didn’t know you needed.
Sometimes the good is:
- A deeper compassion for others
- A resilience that can’t be shaken
- A story that will one day encourage someone else
- A closeness with God that only forms in the dark
God wastes nothing. Not your tears. Not your waiting. Not your questions. He is weaving purpose through every thread — even the tangled ones.
A Prayer for Today
Father, thank You that You are at work in every part of my life — the joyful, the confusing, and the painful. Teach me to trust Your purpose even when I cannot see Your plan. Shape my heart to love You more deeply and to walk faithfully in the calling You’ve placed on my life. Amen.
